Loving Your Enemies
Do you rejoice when your enemy falls? Are you happy when they stumble? Do you gloat over their misfortune? Proverbs 24:17-18 warns us about this!
Let’s face it . . . there is probably someone out there that you have a hard time liking (we are called to love everyone, but we don’t have to like or agree with their actions). Or on the flip side, there may be someone in your life that doesn’t like you! Imagine that! LOL! Either way, if that person is out there, it is sometimes hard to keep the right attitude toward them. You may want to seek revenge or you may feel happy when bad things happen to them.
If we rejoice even in our thoughts or take pleasure in our enemies’ misfortunes, then we are wrong ourselves. Proverbs 24:18 says that the Lord will be displeased with us. He sees and knows what is in our hearts and if we have the wrong attitude, we are guilty of sinning! Let’s not go there!
God requires us to love our personal enemies! I know . . . it is not easy, but being a true Christian means that we show love to even those that are hard to love. This kind of love means that we don’t celebrate when adversity strikes them. We don’t gloat when trouble comes to them. We don’t get excited when they face hardships. We are human and in the natural this can really challenge our faith and our true character of godliness. But God has commanded that our lives be filled with this type of love. So we can do it! Ask for His strength and help in this area! Let’s make sure we LOVE OUR ENEMIES the way God wants us to!
