Friends: Are They Influencing You?

As believers we are challenged to be the light of the world and to draw people to Christ. The problem is sometimes we surround ourselves with darkness (influences of people that are not following Christ) and it can impact our light. We have a calling to reach the world which means being around unbelievers. The thing is how much influence are we giving them? Our friends and family have some of the greatest influences in our lives, for good or bad we can be affected. Now the positive thinking person inside of us thinks we can pull them up to God’s standard. The truth though is something different. King Solomon points out that if you are around angry people you will become like them and Paul pointed out in 1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals (character).:” People are more likely to pull you down into their mud than you are to pull them out of it.

So today take some time and examine the influences in your life and make sure they are supporting and strengthening your light instead of trying to put it out.
