Your Past and Your Future

David had to escape from the king and he left unprepared. Yet because of his obedience and past success he found favor. His men were provided with food and his first battle with Goliath provided a weapon for him to be protected by. Think about it, of all the cities and towns he could have stopped in. He picked the one that had Goliath’s sword. Coincidence, I think not. God was going before him. First had he not been obedient in battling Goliath the sword would have never been there. Second had he not held his men to the highest standards they would have nothing to eat and third. Had he not served with honor and obedience he would have never found the favor he had. David’s past in serving God helped define his future.

In the same way, what we do for God can have a huge impact on our future. In Proverbs 3:5-6 it says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.” There are defining moments in our lives and how we handle them can be a path to something even great. So no matter what you are going through or the battle you may be facing, the victory you can find in Christ may be the start of something even greater.

Side Note: You past failures do not have to define who you are because in Christ we are a new creation and God has forgotten about our past. Those days are behind you and today is a new day. Your successes though for God can shape your future and help you become the man or woman God has called you to be.
