Defending the Mistreated
Will you stand up for someone being mistreated or remain silent? Check out 1 Sam 20:28-34. #iDevo #YFA #LivingLeadership
Saul’s son, Jonathan, was in a tough position. Loyalty to his father or loyalty to his friend and brother-in-law, David. While the decision here is tough, it gets even tougher when it is loyalty to the king or one of his subjects. Saul was the king of the country the leader everyone followed and he had the ability to punish those who disobeyed his authority or disagreed. King Saul though was mistreating David and while everyone saw this from the other commanders of the army to Saul’s son, Jonathan. Only one person tried to stand up to King Saul and that was Jonathan and it almost cost him his life.
In the same way we may be put into a similar situation. Maybe it is a boss, coach, or teacher who is mistreating someone. The question is will we take a stand even if it means having being fired, sat on the bench/kicked off the team or failing a class or will we stay silent because the “proverbial spears” are being throw at someone else instead of us.
Of course we still need to treat leaders with respect and we should always demonstrate humility, compassion, and the love of Christ in any confrontation.
God has challenged us to take a stand when we see someone being mistreated. The question is, will we?
