Faith: When You Don't Have Much
Read Judges 7
“And the Lord said to Gideon, “With the 300 men who lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hand, and let all the others go every man to his home.” -Judges 7:7
It’s easy to have faith when you’ve planned everything out, you’ve calculated any possible problems, and you’ve got a lot of resources and a lot of help. But what about when you don’t have much? What about when things don’t go according to plan, you run into problems, or you have no resources and no one to help you through a situation? Faith becomes a bit harder, but that’s when faith really counts.
Did you read the story about Gideon? It’s pretty awesome, right? God tells Gideon that Gideon is going to be used to defeat the Midianites. So Gideon gathers 22,000 men and gears them up for battle. But God knows that that would be too easy, so God narrows down the men a couple of times and Gideon is eventually left with 300 men. Now, I’m not the best at math, but I know there’s a big difference between 22,000 and 300.
If I were Gideon, I’d be scared. But God reassures him, and he goes into battle against the Midianites with the 300 men. And they win! It took great faith to see past the small chance of winning they had and fight anyway. Here’s the cool part - God used their weakness to increase their faith and show off his glory.
When you are in a situation where the odds are against you, take a step of faith. God will increase your faith and bring glory to his name through your weakness! Remember, when you are weak, God is strong! (2 Corinthians 12:1-10)
