How we treat others is an important part of who we are. It is also something that can set ourselves apart from the world. Think about it, especially if you have family and friends who are not saved. The tone, manner, and words you may say to an unsaved parent for students or to another loved one can have a huge impact on drawing them to Christ. They may want a fight and you may want to give them one but your response in Christ can do more to defuse a situation than anything else. Paul points this out to Timothy in how he should react to people older than him and even younger than him. The idea is to respond in gentleness and with a pure heart.

Our words matter and so does the way we say them and the body language that goes with them.
