How Important Is Loyalty & Honesty?

In the world we live in, there are many people that will pay any price . . . lying, stealing, cheating, or saying anything . . . just to get what they want. They don’t care about their integrity or staying true to their word. But as a child of God, honesty and loyalty are very important in the Christian walk.  These qualities are mentioned a couple of times in this chapter (check out verses 1 and 22)!

First, we should make sure that the words we speak are TRUE and then, that our actions line up with our words! Think before we speak! Is it gossip? Is it rumor? Am I telling a half-truth? Do I follow through with what I say? 

Honesty and loyalty begin with TRUTH! Being truthful means that you don’t cheat on a test at school, you don’t lie to your parents about where you are, and you don’t deceive your employer by adding extra time on your time card! Just be honest! 

Also, when promises are made, they should be kept. If we promise God that we will serve Him, we should be striving every day to do so. If we make a promise to our family, our employer, our friends, or whoever, our word should stand! People should be able to trust that we will do what we say. Be loyal! 

Living a blameless life . . . a life of integrity . . . is very valuable. Let’s examine our speech and actions. Are you truly being honest with God, your family, your friends, your employer, or anyone else that you come in contact with? And, would others use the word loyal as a characteristic to describe you? HOW IMPORTANT IS HONESTY AND LOYALTY to you??
