Do you consider learning important? Are you willing to be taught? Is it hard for you to grasp new information? Take a close look at Proverbs 9!
Sitting in a junior high/high school classroom? Writing a college paper? Starting a new job? Or just retired and about to enjoy your latter years? No matter your age or what season of your life you are in, you can still acquire new knowledge, new understanding and new skills. No one ever arrives at the place where they know everything. As a believer, you are a disciple of Christ. To be a disciple means to be a learner!
The book of Proverbs is all about teaching people how to live godly lives, how to gain wisdom, how to be disciplined, and how to do what is right. The Bible tells us “how to…” but we have to be willing to learn, accept, and act upon it! Proverbs 9:9 says “Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more.” This verse tells us that even a very smart or righteous person can continue to learn and absorb more information! However, you may not consider yourself to be very educated or it may seem hard for you to grasp on to new concepts. That’s okay! In God’s eyes, you are His child and He loves you! He wants you to read His Word, study the scriptures, and let it speak to you. Apply what you discover to your own life and make wise decisions accordingly!
Verse 10 tells us “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.” Knowing God is the key to gaining wisdom and making good choices! Do you know Him? Do you love Him, respect Him, and do you submit to His authority? Develop a closer relationship with God so that He can show you the way to go. It should be our desire to want to do the right thing in every area of our lives. So when you read the Proverbs, listen to the thoughts and lessons from Solomon, a very wise man, and apply these truths to your life! According to verse 12, you will surely benefit from it! BE A LEARNER!
