Healing: The Power of Prayer

James 5:13-15 Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.

Is prayer your first response or last resort?

So many times we go through life and we think we can handle it ourselves. We get a cold or the flu and we rush to the nearest store that sells medicine, hoping that a quick fix will handle everything. We set appointments with doctors, and we trust they will heal us. The thing is that a lot of times, when it comes to sickness and disease, we look at what we can do. It is only when medicine and doctors no longer have an answer that we finally turn to God in prayer.

Now understand, there is nothing wrong with seeing a doctor or taking medicine to fight an illness. God gave those doctors wisdom and creativity to find cures and help us. And sometimes God uses the miracle of modern medicine to provide a cure.

The thing is, though, that as believers, our reliance, our first response, should not be on man and what man can do. Instead, make prayer your first response and watch what God can do. Throughout my life I have seen God do the extraordinary, but as long as we do not put prayer first, we’ll miss an important aspect of experiencing God in our lives.

P – Priority: Make prayer a daily part of your life.

R – Response: When something happens in life, prayer needs to be our first response.

A – Attitude: Read Hebrews 11:1. Prayer takes faith and we have to believe that the impossible is possible. Fix your attitude on faith because a negative attitude of unbelief does not work

Y – You: Prayer starts and ends with you. You have to pray to God. You need to be the one to ask others to pray for you. Remember to make prayer a daily priority, a first response in times of trouble, and have a positive attitude of faith.

Today, whatever you are dealing with or going through, P.R.A.Y. !
