Worship: Is Your Heart in It?

“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” -Mark 12:30

What exactly is true worship? What is worship to you? If you had to define worship, how would you do so? Do you just worship in church on Sundays and Wednesdays, or do you worship God in all the things that you do?

Read the following Scripture passages and let God speak to you about how he wants you to worship: Matthew 23:37; Psalm 150:6; Psalm 111:1; Psalm 113:1; Psalm 145:21. When you have allowed God to speak to you through his Word, you can dig deeper below.

We are called to worship God in all areas of our life. In every breath we take, we are called to worship God; in all the things that we do, we are called to worship God. But how do we do this? Is it saying the right words, praying the right prayers, or singing the right songs?

Honestly, if your heart isn't in it and you're not truly focused on God, then it doesn't matter what whether you say the right thing or sing the right song. What matters is your heart being truly focused on God. If your heart is not in it, then all you're doing is wasting your breath and wasting God's time. But if your heart is in it, then you can praise God in everything you do!

Everything that we do can be an act of worship. If you sing a song, pray a prayer, or just say, “Holy holy holy is the Lord God Almighty,” with your heart truly focused on God, then you're praising and worshiping Him. Every breath that you take is praise to God if that's where your heart is. The very act of writing this devotion is a way that I can praise God. Sharing this devotion, being active in your ministry, being active in the spiritual gifts, all things that you do can be an act of worship to God if that's where your heart and mind truly are.

So are you gonna take these words and the Scriptures and worship God in a new, profound way? Or are you going to stick to the Sunday-Wednesday worship?
