The Holiness of God: God’s Character
John 17:11 Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father, you have given me your name; now protect them by the power of your name so that they will be united just as we are.
Have you ever had that friend, family member, or someone else who just was not reliable? I am sure we all have. They never follow through with what they say they will do and we really don’t trust them. Basically their character is a bit sketchy. We may like them and they may be fun to be around but they are completely unreliable.
Luckily for us God’s character is perfect and it is because of his holiness. You see God is the same yesterday, today, tomorrow, and forever. It means that what He says we can trust to be true. From the inspired words He gave to the people that wrote the different books of the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16 & 2 Peter 1:20-21) to the promises He has made. We can know they are true and God will follow through on them
Even Jesus the son of God knew the character of the Father. To be holy means you are without sin or blemish. For God to be holy there can be no sin in Him. So when Jesus says that he knows He is holy and will protect the followers of Christ. He understands God does not lie and will not break His promise. His character is perfect because He is holy.
The truth is God is the only person in this world who can be trusted to never fail you or break His promises to you. The rest of us are only human, and we will not live up to expectations, make mistakes, and fail at times because we are not perfect. The great thing though is even if we are not perfect, He is and if God is for us. Who can stand against us!
So today place your trust in the Holiness and character of God, He will help see you through whatever you are facing.
