Are You Teachable?
“Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.” -Proverbs 9:9
Do you have a teachable attitude? When we accept Christ as our savior, we begin a process of sanctification. This is a lifelong process in which God begins to shape us more into himself. We have to be willing to change, though. Sometimes it’s easy to think that once we accept Christ, it’s all smooth-sailing from there, but that’s not the case. Hebrews 12 says that God disciplines those that he loves. This isn’t because we aren’t saved; it’s because he has a vision of who he created us to be and sometimes he has to push us along a little harder than we’d like.
So I come back to this initial question: do you have a teachable attitude? If you are stuck in your ways, God isn’t going to get much done in you. But Proverbs 9:9 says that a wise person will be wiser if they listen to instruction. Admitting that you have a lot to learn and a lot to become is not saying that you are a fool - it’s really a sign of wisdom.
Pray against the pride that would cause you to disregard God’s sanctification in your life. He is building your character. Allow yourself to be instructed. You will find that when you look back, you are wiser and closer to God because of it.
