Healing - Check out Isaiah 61:1

Is your heart broken today?  Has someone let you down and left you with all the emotional baggage?  Jesus loves you, and He came to earth to heal the brokenhearted.  Rejoice in Isaiah 61:1.

Are you brokenhearted today? You’re certainly not alone. The Psalms are straight up full of lamenting. For example:

• “My soul is in deep anguish. How long, Lord, how long?” (Psalm 6:3)

• “Why, Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?” (Psalm 10:1)

• “My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes. My friends and my companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away.” (Psalm 38:10-11)

But we can have hope in the midst of our brokenheartedness because we know that all of our suffering is both temporary and meaningful. We know it is temporary because of verses like Revelation 21:4 which says, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” We know it is meaningful because of verses like 2 Corinthians 4:17 which says, “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”

One day, we will no longer be brokenhearted, so now is the only time that we will have the opportunity to worship God with suffering. And perhaps you won’t have to wait until you are with God after death to reap some of the fruit of your current troubles. Romans 5:3-4 says, “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” And likewise, James 1:2 says, “Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you face trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.”

God is near to you in your brokenness (Psalm 34:18). Lean into him and be made whole, knowing that your suffering is temporary and meaningful!
