Sinking Sand or Solid Rock?
What is your life built on? Is it your own successes and dreams that could be taken away at any time? Or is it built on Christ, a foundation that is everlasting? Check out Isaiah 28:16!
You don’t have to be an architect to know and understand that if you are building anything, you need to have the right foundation in order for it to stand. The same is true spiritually. In order to withstand the trials and problems of this life, you must have a solid foundation.
In verse 16, Isaiah says, “Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem, a firm and tested stone. It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Whoever believes need never be shaken’.” Isaiah is speaking of the Messiah, the foundation on whom we build our lives. Building a solid foundation on God begins with believing in Him, letting Him to be Lord of your life, and having a continual relationship with Him. By believing the words of Christ, we create a thought life built on scripture. Then we can become solid in our faith and our actions will follow.
Jesus gives us an illustration in Matthew 7:24-27. A person who follows Christ is a wise man that builds his house on the rock. When the winds, rains, and floods came, the house stood firm. However, the person who doesn’t follow Christ is like the foolish man who builds his house on the sand. When the rain and the floods came, and the winds blew, the house fell because it was built on sinking sand.
Let’s be like the wise man and follow Christ! He can help us weather any storm in our life. With Him, we can stand firm regardless of what comes our way. He is the Cornerstone, the Firm Foundation in which we can place our trust. And be reminded again (verse 16) that “whoever believes need never be shaken”! Let’s make sure our life is built on the Solid Rock and not sinking sand!
