100% or 99% obedience, what's the difference?
If we are 99% obedience, is that good enough for God? Check out 1 Sam 15:22-23. #iDevo #YFA #LivingLeadership
Samuel gives King Saul pretty specific instructions to defeat the Amalekites and completely destroy them. Their people, their livestock, everything. Saul begins to do this but stops just short of the goal. He spares the other king’s life and does not destroy some of the animals and keeps the best. When Samuel confronts him for not following God’s command 100% he points out he was saving the animals to sacrifice to God.
How often do we end up in the same boat. we begin to follow God’s plan and then in the midst of it decide to stray away from it. Maybe with good intentions or maybe we come up with an excuse once we are caught like Saul. In the end it does not really matter. God has a desire for us found in the key verse today.
The idea is that yes we have grace and forgiveness for our mistakes and sins. Jesus was the sacrifice to redeem us. The thing is while we have that, God’s desire is that we are obedient as opposed to intentionally giving in to our flesh and needing to ask for forgiveness.
So remember that 99% obedience and 1% disobedience is still rebellion which is sinful (Verse 23). So challenge yourself to live a life that is pleasing to God 100% of the time.
