Teaching: Why Do We Have Sunday School?
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” -2 Timothy 2:15
“Iron sharpens iron and one man sharpens another.” -Proverbs 27:17
What is the purpose of Sunday school, exactly? Why is it necessary?
It is so important for us to gather together with other believers and study God’s Word. Sometimes the Bible can be complicated, and we need to talk with other people about what some passages of Scripture mean. We should study the Bible so that we can interpret and share God’s Word correctly and appropriately. It’s also important for building each other up and encouraging each other. You and the people gathered together will be edified because of your study together.
It is not, however, necessary for this to happen on Sunday. Jesus never says that Sunday is the day you have to meet together. The important thing is that you do meet and study together. Hebrews 10:25 says not to neglect meeting together, and to do it even more the closer Jesus gets to coming back.
So get together and talk about God’s Word. Sharpen each other, and spur each other on in the Kingdom.
