Generosity: Trust Everything to the King

Deut. 15:10 “Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.”

Jesus declares, “Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it” (Lk 17:33) If we want to truly be disciples of Jesus, we have to consider what we are willing to lose for the sake of following him. Are you willing to lose your comfort, time, or possessions in order to follow him? Sacrificial living is at the core of the commands that Jesus has given to his followers. If you are not willing to love others to the point of sacrificing for them, it will be very difficult to live generously.

However, when we will truly see every aspect of our lives as belonging to Jesus, our hearts will hold everything with open hands. In order to have a spirit of generosity, we must be willing to open up our hands and say, “Jesus, everything I have belongs to you.” Why? Because everything we have came from our King in the first place.

The encouragement that Jesus gives to those who are willing to sacrifice and live generously is that life will be found in the midst of their generosity. When we are truly generous with our time, talents and treasures we will experience the life that God has promised us.

Maybe Jesus is calling you to trust him with your “things.” If so, trust that God is the Father who has always provided and will continue to provide!
