God and Sexuality: What Choice Will You Make?

2 Corinthians 6:6 - “We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, by the Holy Spirit within us, and by our sincere love.”

Sex, it is all over the place. From TV ads, to movies, to life in general. We hear from the world, “Sex is ok!” The world says:

It is ok to have sex before marriage.

It is ok to have sex out of marriage.

It is ok to have sex with whatever partner you choose.

It is ok to look at and watch whatever movies and sex scenes you like.

But what does the Bible have to say about sex and purity?

First, God desires us to be pure. He expects that we as believers will live a life of purity. Paul, multiple times in the Bible, reminds people of his purity, and he challenged Timothy that purity was one of five examples we show as believers (1 Tim 4:12).

John even reminds us about the world:

1 John 2:15-16 - “Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.”

You see, the world wants to give you a corrupt imitation of what God desires for your life. But God desires that we as believers first live a life of purity. That means sex outside of marriage is wrong for a believer. So no matter how much in love with someone you may feel, wait. Choose purity over the world.

The same goes for what we allow into our hearts and minds. Jesus said , “But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matt 5:28) It means that we need to have purity in our thought life and that may mean not watching something on the TV or on the internet.

Ultimately, God wants you to choose Him over the world and he desires us as believers to live a life of purity. You see, sex as the world sees it is wrong, but sex when we wait is a blessing. Sex when we have remained pure is what God desires.

So today you have a choice to make when it comes to sex. You can choose the world’s version of it, or you can choose purity and God’s version.
