Change: You Don't Have to Fear
"For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline." -2 Timothy 1:7
"And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." -Romans 8:28
Change is hard. Change can be terrifying and unsettling. Those things are only made worse by how our minds try to handle them.
We try to imagine everything that could possibly go wrong, or we try to imagine that whatever change we're facing will only make things worse, or we try to imagine that we will lose everything because of a coming change in our lives. Those things are not of God, though.
In his Word, God uses Paul to tell us that he has not given us a spirit of timidity or fear. Instead, he has given us a spirit of power and love and discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7) This means that in stead of being afraid, we can be assured that God will give us power over the situation, love toward those involved, and discipline to do whatever is required of us.
In another part of God's Word, he tells us that he works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28) This means that no matter what happens, God will work it out for good, because we love him and have been called to serve a specific purpose that he has already planned out. It doesn't matter how bad things seem in the moment. It doesn't matter that you don't know what's coming in the future. These things don't matter because God has it all under control, and he will turn everything the enemy means for evil into something good.
Because of these promises, as well as many others God makes to us in his word, we don't have to fear and dread change anymore. We can rest in God, and let his peace that surpasses all understanding fill us and put our souls to rest.
