Keep Your Eyes on God: Vines and Branches

Read John 15:1-11

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.” - John 15:4

Imagine you have a vine. Now imagine that you cut off one of the branches from that vine. What happens? It shrivels up and dies because it does not have any nutrients. In this Scripture passage, Jesus compares himself to a vine and says that we are the branches on that vine. In other words, if we get separated from Jesus, we shrivel up and die.

This is why it is so important to make Jesus your daily bread. The more days you go without spending time connected with him, the more you are going to begin to dry up, and your faith will eventually die.

The good news is this: Jesus consistently calls you back to him. Branches that fall off can be put back on and thereby regain life. Have you fallen off the vine? Run to Jesus and get connected. Are you still on the vine? Don’t be tempted by the things of the world and the slyness of Satan. Stay connected and keep your eyes on Jesus.
