The Life of Joseph: A Lesson About Life!

Genesis 50:19-20 “But Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in God’s place? As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.

Have you ever felt like the entire world seemed to be against you. Where no matter what you did right, someone was there to bad mouth you, criticize your effort, lead a negative charge against you, or even conspire to do evil to you? The truth is we live in a fallen world. One that is no longer how God designed it and because of that bad things can happen to the best of us. The question is not whether something bad will happen to you but your response to the situation.

You see our response will determine the course of our life. In the case of Joseph he did not have one bad thing happen but multiple things. His brothers sold him into slavery, his master’s wife falsely accused him of attacking her, he was thrown in jail, and he was forgotten for years by even the people he helped while in jail. Joseph could have responded by being bitter or angry to the people that caused his predicament. He could have allowed depression to set in. He could have even given up on the dream God had given him in his youth. Instead Joseph stayed strong, he pushed on and kept his focus on God even through the most trying storms and struggles of his life.

In the same way, we must do the same. People may mean evil against you, things might now work out like they are supposed to, or bad things may happen not because of anything you did but simply because we live in a fallen world. We must choose this day, whom we will serve. We can choose God and push through trusting Him to strengthen us in our weakness or we can choose ourselves and throw a pity party on the entire world being against us. Because Joseph served God with everything, His heart, soul, mind and strength what man intended for evil God was able to use for good.

So no matter what you are facing or going through. God has your back and He will see you through. Will you trust Him to do that so you too can utter the words of Joseph. “What man intended for evil, God used for good.”
