Dealing With Grief: Rejoice - It's not a cliché

Oh, it’ll all be ok.

Don’t worry. Things will get better.

Chin up…it’s always darkest before dawn.

How many clichés have you heard about sadness?  It’s kind of disgusting, actually, when things are really bad and people try to cheer you up with words like that.

But what of sadness? Is there a Biblical response to it? After all, “Jesus wept.” (John 11:35) Shortest verse in the Bible, but so telling…Christ really did know of grief.  Part of God’s plan for grief was to let Christ experience it too. So that’s the first thing about grief. Jesus personally knows about it, and He knows how you feel. He does not dismiss grief, or say to buck up, or get over it. No…He dealt with it to the point of tears…more than once!

The good news, though, is that we can absolutely know that it is not a “forever” thing…Psalm 30:5 directly says weeping might endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning. This means that, while grief is certain to come along, we know that God will help us through it, and that…eventually…it might be a while…joy will be the result.

That’s not a cliché.  That’s the Bible.

Are you sad? Grief-stricken? Rejoice! Joy is yours very soon!
